With new ownership taking over the Celtics, rumors have circled over whether or not the team will stay in TD Garden, which they share with the Bruins.
Let’s be honest: as Celtics fans, we totally lucked out with Wyc Grousbeck and Co. being fully committed to producing a winning product, even if that meant hurting their revenue.
With Bill Chisholm purchasing the storied franchise for $6.1 billion, who knows if he is going to share the same commitment.
This could ultimately mean that the star-studded core of players could be broken up due to the financial commitment it would take to keep everyone, but that’s a whole separate story.
The other big piece of the financial puzzle that could change is the sharing of TD Garden.
Revenue made by hosting concerts and other events in the TD Garden did not go to the Celtics since they are not owners of the building.
It is safe to assume that the revenue missed out on by the organization for decades could finally come to an end with the new ownership team moving the Celtics to their own venue.
But where would the team make their new home?
With the success of Encore Casino in Everett, perhaps a stadium built in that area could be another tourist trap for that part of the city.
Besides that, it’s anyone’s guess as to where they might end up. The franchise is way to successful and well-known as a brand for them to move outside of Boston, which could result in a name change like the New England Celtics or Massachusetts Celtics.
The team’s current lease on TD Garden is set to run through 2036, so Chisholm and his team have plenty of time to decide what the best course of action is.
Where do you think the Celtics will end up? Will they stay in the Garden or get a stadium of their own? Comment below to share your thoughts.
