After eight years of continued regular-season success, the Boston Bruins have been officially eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention.

Despite all the playoff appearances, they only advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals once, in 2018-19, where they lost a heartbreaker in seven games to the St. Louis Blues.

What went wrong?

Where do you even begin. First and foremost, the teams consistent core of stars that has been with the team through the past 15 or so years finally aged out of their best playing years. This was capped of with the trading of Brad Marchand at the NHL trade deadline.

The Bruins also just never got going this year. They had a slow start to the season that resulted in the firing of head coach Jim Montegomery. His replacement, Joe Sacco, has left a lot to be desired in his place.

With only five games left on the Bruins’ schedule, now is the time to tank and have a good rookie draft.

This is also the time for the young prospects in the organization to prove their worth to the team and become a part of the Bruins’ plans going forward.

Players like right winger Fabian Lysell, who was recently called up from Providence, are looking to secure a spot on next year’s Opening Night roster.

Looking ahead to the draft, the Bruins will enter the draft lottery, with the best case scenario being that they land a top-5 pick.

Thanks to the recent moves they made in blowing up their core, they have two second round picks, and one pick in every remaining round. In the 2026 draft, the B’s will have two first round picks.

What do you want the Bruins to do in the upcoming draft and offseason? What positions or players should be their focus? Comment below to let us know.
