They finally got Drake Maye some help.

Adam Schefter reported last night that free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs signed a 3-year, $69 million deal with just $26 million guaranteed.

Just like that, the Patriots now have their best wide receiver since Julian Edelman, and Drake Maye now has a number one target.

There are, of course, a lot of questions and doubts that come with signing Diggs. After all, there’s a reason why he was still available this deep into free agency.

Diggs is 31 years old and coming off a torn ACL from last season. We all know that when receivers turn 30, they tend to see a drop in play, regardless of whether they’re coming off a serious injury.

Diggs also has a reputation of being a ‘diva’ in the locker room. Most famously, he complained about not getting the ball enough when he was in Buffalo, despite leading the league in receptions at one point.

But honestly, Diggs’s attitude doesn’t concern me nearly as much as the injury worries.

Every good receiver will want the ball, and I’m sure Drake Maye doesn’t care how Diggs acts as long as he’s producing.

That fiery attitude is what has made Diggs such a good player and a great signing for this rebuilding Patriots team.

The guy is a winner and a competitor. Diggs has actually NEVER been on a team with a losing record.

I will hand it to Kraft here, him and his front office said they would do what they can to turn this thing around and they seem like they’re trying to do it.

However, I will not claim that this signing means he and Elliot Wolfe are suddenly in the good graces of Patriots fans.

Let’s not forget that they missed on D.K. Metcalf, Cooper Kupp, and Devontae Adams. They also failed to work out possible trades for Tee Higgins and Brandon Aiyuk.

They essentially offered Chris Godwin a blank check to come here, but he still turned it down to stay in Tampa Bay for far less money. And I blame the organization for that because it’s their own fault that they have become such an unattractive destination.

Perhaps the Godwin situation opened their eyes to just how bad it became. I’m sure Kraft never imagined his organization having problems money couldn’t magically fix.

All eyes now turn to the draft. Will the Pats take Travis Hunter if he slides to them? Will they focus on repairing their wretched offensive line?
